West Coast Classics is proud to present an absolutely exceptional
and beautiful example of this 1972 Volkswagen Beetle! The decision
to produce the Super Beetle in 1971 was going to prove a costly
one. Never before had Volkswagen spent so much time or money on the
Beetle. The new suspension design required a new chassis and every
panel in the front end had to be redesigned as well. This meant new
round fenders, a larger wider hood, redesigned front valance, a new
spare tire well, other changes to areas of the body and new inner
fenders to accommodate the mounting of the new struts. The newly
designed Beetle was to be sold in North America with a larger
carbureted 1600cc engine featuring dual port cylinder heads for
better performance, with an external oil cooler. Crescent-shaped
air vents were designed to allow more fresh air into the interior.
The rear deck lid was increased in size to accommodate the new
larger engine and had two banks of five louvers cut into it to help
keep the new power plant cool. Released in August 1970 for the 1971
model year, the new sales brochure stated the Beetle to be 'The
most powerful, most exciting , most comfortable Beetle
ever!'Absolutely no rust and obviously always well maintained and
looked after! This car must be seen and driven to be fully
appreciated - the engine is extremely strong and responsive with
excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely
magnificent, the 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly
through all the gears, including reverse, the car brakes and steers
great and the engine temperature always remains cool. The car has
very striking high quality Green color paint and a very clean
restored interior. The car has new carpet, new upholstery, new
brakes including master cylinder, lines and pads, new tires. This
must be one of the finest daily driving example's available of this
