Vehicle Description
The fourth-generation Thunderbird was introduced in 1964, ushering
in a new styling philosophy that moved away from the space-age,
rounded 1961-1963 "bullet bird" design. The 1964-1966 Thunderbird
was more elegant and refined. In 1966, Ford introduced an even
higher level of elegance and refinement with a formal roof model
called the Landau. At the top of the range was the even more
luxurious Town Landau model offered here. In addition to the formal
roof design of the Landau, the Town Landau featured a vinyl top and
a Landau bar that evoked cars from the classic era. Also new for
1966 was a tail light design that ran the car's width, which was
very attractive, especially at night. This Thunderbird is also
fitted with optional factory fender skirts for an extra touch of
class.
Finished elegantly in Black, this well-preserved example is
believed to have only 57,185 miles on the odometer. Powering this
Thunderbird is a smooth-running 390 cubic inch V8 engine mated to a
C-6 automatic transmission. Stopping is aided by factory front
power-assisted disc brakes - most welcome on a car of this size and
weight. General Motors would not offer disc brakes on their luxury
cars until 1967-the plush white-colored interior contrasts
beautifully with the black paint. A perfect balance of luxury and
sportiness, it features bucket seats (power operated for the
driver), cold factory air conditioning, power windows, and a center
console. Special wood-grain inserts on the dashboard, door panels,
and console are part of the Town Landau package and a wood-grain
steering wheel. This car also has a swing-away steering column. The
last year that this novel featured was offered in the Thunderbird.
The interior is in clean, unrestored original condition that
reflects the care of ownership this car has been treated to over
the years.
