Vehicle Description
"Ford's Thunderbird started out as an American interpretation of a
European sports car, but within a few years, it began evolving into
a very American statement in the form of a personal luxury car with
big V-8 power. Those early, sporty two-seat "small birds" gave way
to the larger, more substantial "square birds". By late 1960, the
Space Age-inspired 1961 "bullet birds" arrived and spent three
years on the bestseller's list... The Thunderbird grew yet again
for the 1964 to '66 model years." -Hemmings This 1966 Thunderbird
Town Landau is finished in Honeydew Yellow with a Sage Gold vinyl
roof over a white interior featuring the iconic rear wrap around
seat. Power is provided by a 390 cubic inch V-8 motor which was
factory rated at 315 horsepower and is mated to a smooth shifting
three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power front
disc brakes, power steering, power windows, swing-away steering
column, power driver's seat and sequential rear turn signals. The
Thunderbird is running on older whitewall tires which will require
replacement.
Spending many years in Florida, the body and underside of this
Thunderbird are very solid, with no signs of corrosion. Although an
older respray the Honeydew paint shows well with no signs of
excessive wear.
The carburetor was recently rebuilt and the car now comes to a
quick start and smooth idle. After sitting dormant for the last few
years this Thunderbird may require some tuning and fluid changes to
provide for a trouble-free classic vehicle.
