In the mid 90s, Porsche had made the rather controversial decision to veer away from what was likely the single most on-brand aspect of the 911…air-cooled technology. Porsche’s iconic and oversimplified air induced cooling system was to be replaced by the liquid cooled system; introduced at the tail end of ’95 in the first generation Boxster. This new wave would prove to be a bit bumpy for the famed auto-Haus, as the first liquid cooled 911—the 996—was one of the most poorly welcomed 911 generations of all time. But, as they tend to do with the 911, Porsche stuck to their guns and as 996 focus increased, production of the final air-cooled 911 (993) dwindled down. Porsche would finish the ’98 model year having produced only 4,535 911s for the world—a massive difference from the 18,463 911s produced in ’97.
Photographed here, our 1998 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo has gone just under 35k miles since being delivered new in the United Kingdom. Finished in its original specification of Forest Green Metallic over a full, Black and Tan leather interior, this extremely unique 993 is one of the rarest air-cooled 911s that we’ve come across—and not just due to its options...For the 1998 model year, Porsche would build only 739 Turbos—of that, none of them were built for the U.S. market and only 31 were built for the U.K. This production figure resulted in the ’98 MY 993 Turbo becoming one of the most limited Porsche production cars ever made.
