For Sale: 1940 Ford Deluxe in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan

Excerpt from the Foreword section of the original owner's manual... "The fact that you are the owner of a new Ford car is, in itself, an indication that you have a keen appreciation of a well-designed, carefully manufactured automobile. It has been designed to perform faithfully for many thousands of miles, and Ford Motor Company has the utmost confidence that this car will fulfill your expectations." I think this wraps it up nicely!

For consignment, this beautiful iconic design Ford Deluxe. Presenting in shiny black and all its beautiful lines intact, it can still shine in the eye of Ford lovers everywhere. There is a backup of build receipts, a 289 ci V8, Weiand intake and Holley 4-barrel carb to whisk you down the highway, and this coupled with a C4 3-speed automatic transmission may even save you some gas. Looking much from the exterior like 1940 all over again but with a more modern twist.

Exterior
Black paint covers all the straight steel panels that make up the exterior of this car. For your added visual enjoyment, black fenders in front and rear adjoined by a running board add to the black charm. The front bumpers show just beautifully and front a very nice art nouveau style Vee grille which is flanked by 2 teardrop shaped headlights which are framed in deluxe oversized teardrop bezels. The chrome and brite-work is good all over and a tall bulbous hood, English wheel shaped front fenders frame 15-inch moon chrome capped hubcaps and chromed dish trim edged wide whitewalls bring the package together nicely. In back, the wonderfully curved rear has a split oval back glass, long curving trunk lid, and another curved like new chrome bumper at the bottom of the lid. Sergeant stripe tail lights have nice bright bezels and are mounted on curved black rear quarters which show in the deep end of the pool black paint. I'll also take note of the curved stalks on either door with a round mounted rear view mirror also shining brightly.

Interior
Original style mohair in total tan door panels supports the door handle and crank as well as the reddish brown vinyl covered door pull and armrest. A strip of tan carpeting is on the lower door panels. A large expansive tan split back bench covered in corduroy is seen stretching from door to door. Behind the split back front bench is another overstuffed couch like bench in the same pattern as the front. Up front, a two tone rounded front metal dash has a brown dash top instrument panel and the tan then takes over for the center speaker grid and passenger side glovebox with a square clock in its confines. A new panel has been added to the dash lower and this has a modern digital AM/FM/CD radio from Pioneer. A vacuum motor minder is mounted in aftermarket style off the bottom of the radio panel. The instrument cluster has been modified to a newer look using AutoMeter white face gauges in a cascading bezeled look in front of the banjo style steering wheel. This wheel is on a tilt column that sports billet styled levers for signals and the shifter. Also noted is an aftermarket column mount tachometer. Nice thick pile dark tan carpeting is flooding the floors and above is a smooth and tight light tan cloth headliner.

Drivetrain
Under the bulbous style hood in a clean engine bay is now a newer much more powerful 289ci V8. It has a Weiand intake and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on top. There is a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission on the back coupled with a Ford 8 inch rear axle. Dual glass-pack exhaust is on for a larger exhale. This engine has newer ignition as well as nice supple hoes and a filtered breather cap on the cast ribbed valve coverings.

Undercarriage
Underneath is rust free and a newer fuel tank has been installed. The floor pans appear newer and are supported by a rust free solid X frame. The bottom end of the engine is drip free and the suspension is transverse leaf springs for the front, and leaf springs for the back. Braking is now front discs and rear drums.

Drive-Ability
As I swung the door to the passenger's side, my partner in crime and test driving took the wheel, and we had a great convo about these old Fords. She ran like a top, good power, bias free braking on the panic stopping, and all functions were in working order. A pleasurable test drive overall.

A wonderful example of the 1940 Ford Deluxe sedan, nice black paint, shiny chrome trimmings and bumpers, all highlighted with Art Nouveau headlight and grille styling. Call me a sucker for those teardrop headlights and that curvaceous rising Vee grille. The engine kicks in plenty of newer power and the brakes bring all to a commanding halt. Throw in some new gauges and a modern stereo and we are ready to go for a cruise right out of 1940 looks. Lovely!
