Despite its previous success, a huge turning point came for
Chevrolet in 1955. The Bel Air name had been used in previous years
but the world was now introduced to what would be known as the
"tri-five" cars. These have become iconic in the classic car
collector hobby with each of the 3 years from 1955 to 1957 having
their own distinct design. 1955 was also credited with being the
first successful Chevy introduced with an optional V8 motor. These
cars remain very popular with entire clubs and car shows dedicated
to their preservation. This very nice early production 2 door Sedan
Bel Air has a great look and has been modified with a lot of newer
components transforming it into a great driver as well. The body is
in good condition and features a nice Glacier Blue and Shoreline
Beige two tone color combination. It wears Bel Air trim and all of
the chrome/stainless is in great shape. The bumpers have a nice
shine and up front it has the stock style grill bar and bumper
guards. All of the glass is good throughout and has a slight tint.
The custom 5 spoke Budnik 17 inch wheels tuck nicely under the
fenders and are wrapped in Road Hugger (rear-255/50ZR17,
front-235/55R17) tires.
Under the hood is a crate 350 Chevy motor that runs out well. It
fires right up and doesn't smoke or have any issues. The engine
compartment is nicely done with a Blue firewall and nice Black
inner fenders and Black radiator support. It has a clean look and
the motor has also been dressed up with finned aluminum valve
covers, a finned air cleaner and the heads/block are painted
Chevrolet Orange. It is topped off with an Edelbrock intake and a 4
barrel Edelbrock AVS 650 cfm carburetor. In 2022 the car received a
lot of upgrades like a brand new Vintage AC compressor, condenser,
dryer and valves. At that time it also got new Alan Grove brackets
to mount the chrome alternator, compressor and power steering
system. It even has power front disc brakes with a fin top polished
power brake booster. All of this combined makes this a classic you
can hop in comfortably and cruise anywhere. It has a great sound
through Sanderson CC56 Black ceramic coated headers into dual
X-pipe exhaust which is freshly redone. Paired with the motor is a
smooth shifting 700R4 automatic transmission that moves through the
gears with ease. Whether it is around town or driving down the
highway at 70mph this thing handles it no problem. Underneath the
car is solid and the floors are painted to match the body. Other
very nice components include the heavy duty front anti sway bar and
American Auto Wire harness that was put in when it was completely
re-wired.
On the inside the 2 tone Gray interior is in good condition
throughout. It has a split bench front seat with chrome retractable
lap belts. Through the dark Gray carpeting on the floor a push
button Lokar shifter was added within the last year. The dash is
all nicely painted and fitted with the stock Chevy bowtie trim. On
the center of the dash is a Retro Auto Sound Radio that sounds
great. The A/C blows cold and utilizes adjustable underdash vents.
The gauges have been upgraded with a Classic Instruments Bel Era
III complete system with a clock which all work properly. It
recently got a new IDIDIT tilt steering column topped off with a
Classic Industries 15 inch reproduction wheel. The trunk of the car
offers plenty of storage space and appears to have barely been
used. It is done in the same Gray color combination with the Bowtie
logo stitched on the back panel.
This cool '55 has a lot of very nicely done upgrades that are fresh
and completed within the last 2,500 miles. These cars will always
be popular and car enthusiasts aren't going away so they will
continue to hold their value over time.
