production of the 4-door saloon began in August 1959, which made
its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in the autumn. Initially the
series consisted of the 220b, 220Sb, and 220SEb. These replaced the
(W105) 219, the (W180) 220S and the (W128) 220SE Ponton saloons
respectively. All models shared the 2195 cc M127 straight-six
engine carried over from the previous generation, producing 95 hp
(71 kW) at 4800 rpm and capable of accelerating the heavy car to
160 km/h (155 if fitted with optional automatic gearbox). Attn,
this is a Barn Find, Buying it as is. Recent work completed to it;
DRAINED OLD FUEL. ADDED FRESH FUEL AND ADDITIVE. DRAINED OLD OIL.
FILLED WITH NEW OIL. ATTEMPTED TO START. ENGINE RUNS. WILL NEED TO
SERVICE AND REPLACE PARTS TO TEST DRIVE AND VERIFY RUNNING AND
DRIVING CONDITIONS. VINTAGE VEHICLES WILL ALWAYS HAVE PARTS/REPAIRS
THAT WILL NEED TO BE PERFORMED ONCE OTHER REPAIRS START. & LOOK
OVER VEHICLE. FRONT BRAKE PADS 50% LIFE LEFT. REAR BRAKE PADS 90%
LIFE LEFT. STEERING RACK HAS PLAY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TIRES
ARE DATE CODE 2000 AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. CARBURETOR HAS FUEL
LEAK. NEEDS REBUILD. BATTERY DEAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FUEL
TANK HOSES AND DRAIN PLUG LEAKING. NEED TO BE REPLACED. EXHAUST HAS
HOLES AND IS RUSTED. NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH MISSING
EXHAUST HANGER HARDWARE MISSING. A full description of the origins
