Vehicle Description
This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS tribute convertible has an awesome
color combo, an upgraded big block, and the control of
four-on-the-floor. It all makes for an iconic drop-top that
maximizes both its powerful presence and true cruiser style.
The '68 Chevelle is a true red-blooded American classic, and so
it's always going to look terrific painted in red. It's a quality
application that happened later in life, and so you have a nice
gloss that's ideal for a sunshine-friendly convertible. Plus, this
one even looks good with the top in place. The blackout rockers and
full-length SS stripe combine with the clean-looking black folding
roof for a classy two-tone style. And we love the sporty style of a
proper SS tribute that includes the dual power dome hood, SS
badging, and mag-style wheels with raised white letter tires. It
all makes an attractive and powerful first impression.
With the flip of a switch, the top powers down to reveal quite a
distinct interior. Where the exterior is red with black accents,
the color theme seems to switch inside. And the red is not just on
the lower dash and carpeting. As you slip inside, you'll see this
has a full custom setup on the seats, door panels, and dash that
all have contrast stitching in a thoughtful red. You may want to
upgrade the stereo or restore the tach, but this is already done to
be a terrific driver. The front bucket seats, wood-rimmed steering
wheel, tilt column, and robust shifter in the center console make
this quite fun.
The dark inner walls of the engine bay really let all the polished
components of this big block take center stage. This 454 cubic-inch
V8 is built for power with a four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock
aluminum intake, and ceramic-coated headers feeding the dual
exhaust. There are nice supporting components, like the MSD
ignition, dual electric fans, and polished aluminum pulleys. This
is a true power car, and you get to harness it fully thanks to the
control of the four-speed manual transmission. And the full package
is a solid driver thanks to power steering, wide Cooper Cobra
tires, and upgraded Hotchkis rear trailing arms.
