Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet Impala SS Sedan
Residing on the African Savannah and confronted with a threat, the
sleek, nimble, and fast Impala will take flight to outrun or
confuse its competitor. Aptly named, the Chevrolet version
introduced in 1958, continued to emulate its animal namesake
through years of design modifications, and power options made
available.
This Dark Cherry beauty brings a shudder to my mind. As a frequent
speeder, I've ingrained the Impala shape in my mind that I need to
slow down in anticipation it is not the po po awaiting my quick
arrival to their radar in their unmarked cruiser, (this Impala).
Now they patrol in anything, so that theory is gone by the wayside,
however it still sticks in my mind! Offered to you, this wonderful
Impala SS right out of 1996 has always been dealership maintained
and has had a mere 2 adult owners in its 27 years of service. It
has been treated to AC Delco shocks, a Street Warrior 4 wheel disc
brake conversion as well as a new smog pump and a new
battery....all the better to outperform the competition all the
while having them second guess what's coming up in their
mirror.
Exterior
Beautifully straight all steel panels draped in deep gloss Dark
Cherry Metallic base coat and clear coat are seen throughout this 4
door car. Virtually dent free, the car's exterior paint could be
said to be in all but showroom condition with the exception of a
few spots of clear coat wear on the rear spoiler, some chipping on
the one door, and road rash across the front bumper. All correct
badging, and bumpers are attached, with a hint of chromed trimmings
around the side glass, all else is sultry sexy Dark Cherry. 17-inch
cast aluminum wheels are seen all around and add some bright spots
to the corners and are wrapped in 255/50ZR17's from the 32nd week
of 2018. This Impala is looking 100% the part of being on the
prowl.
Interior
Gray leather on bucket seats in front, and a full bench in back
shows in slightly worn condition. A leather wrapped steering wheel,
leather and vinyl door panels, and vinyl padded dash with analog
gauges and a cobalt blue digital readout for the odometer are
adorning the passenger compartment as well. All power conveniences,
power windows, power steering, power brakes, power locks, AM/FM
seek scan radio/CD player are within the confines of this interior
with most controls conveniently located in the doors. Twilight
sentinel sensor turns the headlights on for you when it is the
perfect time. Don't forget the lightly smoked glass all around as
well. Somewhat soiled grey carpet floods the floors, and above is a
tight gray headliner.
Drivetrain
A 350ci LT1 EFI V8 with a super smooth 4-speed 4L60E automatic
transmission takes you down the road in a breeze. The 10-bolt 3.08
Positraction rear axle aids this getting down the road as well, all
the while spinning both rear tires. The engine bay is in overall
fair to good condition with slight corrosion and aging shown. The
largest fault to note isn't even in the engine bay itself, the
underside of the hood has some rust forming at the frontmost drain
holes of the underside.
Undercarriage
Plenty of patina and surface rust on drivetrain parts and front
structure are noted underneath. We note the floor pans are solid
with surface rust and the same can be said of the rockers, but all
remains structurally solid. A factory dual exhaust is noted but
will need new mufflers as the passenger's muffler has some rot
through and the driver's isn't far behind in condition. Power disc
brakes are on all 4 corners, and the consigner notes this is a
Street Warrior conversion with carbon ceramic pads, drilled and
slotted rotors, new lines, hoses, and red painted calipers.
Drive-Ability
The ride and drive suspension and new AC Delco shocks as well as a
limited slip axle contribute to the smoothness of the ride. This
car started right up and was ready to go. Most of its miles were
logged on the highway and it ran swimmingly. Plenty of power, good
handling, and above average braking with everything is all buttoned
up.
Seen here at Classic Auto Mall a near perfect exterior, and nice
all leather interior, fair engine bay, and underside, but a smooth
quick starting engine, and almost undetectable shifting
transmission. This makes a great combination with all the
convenience options, offering a great package for the classic
Chevrolet which had a run of nearly 40 years.
