Vehicle Description
1990 Ford F-150
The great-great-grandfather to the F-150 was the Ford F-1 which
debuted for 1948. It quickly became a favorite of farmers and small
business owners. Despite its name, it never participated in a
Formula 1 race. The F-150 moniker itself debuted for the 1975 model
year, as the name for Ford's half-ton pickup which slotted between
the lighter-duty F-100 and the heavier-duty F-250. Massive
popularity soon ensued. How massive? So much so that the Ford
F-Series has been not only the best-selling pickup for nearly 40
years running, but the best-selling vehicle for the last 34 years.
It has consistently outsold such hugely popular rides as the Honda
Accord and Toyota Camry. The F-Series trucks are so popular that
their total production comes in at a whopping 32 million trucks. In
2018 Ford sold over 1.075 million F-Series trucks, averaging a sale
every 29.3 seconds.
For consignment, a generation 3 version of the popular Ford F150
pickup. It comes to us in fair to good condition, has a 6 cylinder
engine, black paint and a lined 8 foot bed. This truck is within
our dancing noodle section, which is reserved for those vehicles
which are more likely used vehicles rather than classics. Although
this one holds its own and looks good doing so.
Exterior
Black bathes the straight steel of this pickup that shows some
faults throughout in the form of fading, overspray, orange peel,
and some beginnings rust at the seams of trim. There is a trimming
on the lower sides which delineates the panels on the rockers which
are painted silver. The "aero" design of the front grille is
framing out on the bottom with a large chromed bumper that has a
grille guard on it. The vertical triangular protectors are showing
some surface rusting. This truck has trimmings aplenty which
encircle the wheel wells, side view mirrors, windshield surround
and bars on the tops of the bed sides. Some badging is showing
peeling off of the faux chrome. A sliding glass window is on the
back of the cab and the bed is lined with a tuff plastic liner also
in black. 15-inch drilled aluminum wheels are on, and wrapped in
Goodyear Wrangler radial tires, (235/75R15).
Interior
For the interior, a gray broadcloth bench which is covered with a
black slip cover and this shows some staining and faults. The bench
stretches from door to door and has some wear off on the drivers
side on this bolster. There is a central armrest that can be folded
up to accommodate a 3rd passenger in the center. Gray plastic
moldings abound on the doors and create the various panels for the
armrest, storage bin upper and lower and the power window and lock
toggle background. The upper sill on the driver's door is cracked.
A small area of the gray corduroy like broadcloth is also seen on
the doors which has some small vertical stripes on it for the
pattern. A gray molded plastic padded dash top and front are in and
the instrumentation in front of the driver is in a black field
which is surrounded by a thin strip of faux wool which is rounded
over. A factory black steering wheel is fronting the dash and
sports buttons for cruise control. Yellowed gray carpeting covers
the floors and a gray headliner is above and showing some faults
within it.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 4.9 liter I-6 which is the engine the factory
put in. It has EFI and an AOD 4-speed automatic transmission on
back with a Ford 8.8 inch rear axle. Slight surface rust is seen
inside but the engine presents overall clean.
Undercarriage
Spotty areas of surface rust are seen throughout, but mostly
unremarkable. It is mostly seen on the framing sides and structural
supports that run perpendicular to the framing. The exhaust system
shows some surface rust. Radius arm and coil springs are in front
and in back are leaf springs for the suspension. Power disc brakes
are upfront, and power drums are on back.
Drive-Ability
Its fired right up but there is an occasional hesitation, (hiccup),
at some points which is believed to be electrically related. It has
been checked by several reputable garages and a diagnosis remains a
mystery. Otherwise our drive was uneventful and even the AC blew
cold.
This used example is ready to roll albeit with the aforementioned
issue, but is an all working example. Ready, willing and able to be
your next hauler or daily driver.
