Vehicle Description
STK 3398 1951 Mercury Monterey
This 1951 Mercury convertible was partially restored to original
glory in 2008. The Mercury was part of the classic collection of
the late Dennis Carpenter, the well-respected Ford restoration
specialist here in North Carolina. Originally a Texas car, Dennis
bought this Merc over 25 years ago. The beautiful exterior was
professionally re-sprayed Mercury Vassar Yellow (2008) that is
still in excellent condition. In the tradition of the '50s, there
is a generous allotment of chrome, rear fender skirts and wide
white Firestone bias-ply tires mounted on 15" steel wheels w/full
hubcaps. The original interior is upholstered in Blue-Grey/Cream
leather. Upholstery, door cards, window glass, steering wheel,
carpets - everything is in excellent condition. The classic '50s
dashboard holds a full compliment of gauges along with the original
AM radio. Other options include cold air conditioning, power
windows, power front seats and a power convertible top that is in
very good condition. The Merc is powered by a 255ci flathead V8
that was rated at 112hp/206lb-ft w/Holley 2-bbl carb. The engine
was rebuilt in 2008 and a dual exhaust system was installed. The
big flathead runs beautifully and everything under the hood looks
original. A factory 6-volt electrical system has been converted to
a 12-volt alternator based system. The flathead is backed by a
'Touch-O-Matic' 3-speed manual gearbox w/OD and column shift. A
clean chassis is equipped with manual steering, front coil/rear
leaf spring suspension and manual drum brakes. This Mercury
convertible is a beautiful example of a classic early '50s Mercury
and would look great in your driveway. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS
IS".
