The Bentley Turbo R, released in 1989, was a highly-updated version of the Mulsanne Turbo. While they appear rather alike from the outside, what lies underneath is quite a different story. The turbo-charged V8 of the Mulsanne S was given a Bosch MK-Motronic fuel-injection system, significantly adding to the torque and horsepower ratings of the vehicle (490 lb-ft and 300 hp). The suspensions also received an overhall, adding dampers and increasing anti-roll bar rates by about 75% between the front and rear. All of this mounted on a wider trac made for a far superior ride to its predecessor. While maintaining the luxury and spaciousness of the Mulsanne, Bentley was able to make the vehicle feel infinitely lighter and more responsive. Our particular Turbo R was purchased in '93 (then, for some $200,000) by a resident of Key Biscayne, Florida. He enjoyed the vehicle so much so that he not only took it with him when he moved to France, but brought it back when he returned to the States. The vehicle remained with that owner until 2006 when (with 24,373 miles) the car was sold to a local NJ resident in Basking Ridge. With only two prior owners and only 28,864 miles, a Turbo R in nicer condition with fewer miles would be a hard find. All original tools and manuals are present along with service and sales records dating back to 1993 (including the window sticker).
