1968 Ford Mustang
I have had this car for over 16 yrs and it is VERY HARD to let it go but times are tough right now. Most of the impressive stuff on this car does not show on the outside. 351 Engine In 68 it came stock with a 289. I put a 351 into it and then when my wife s ex-husband put sugar in my gas it was rebuilt about 5 yrs ago the engine was bored out to about a 387. Hi Performance pistons to improve the combustion chamber. The heads were milled placing the compression to 9 to 1. A high performance cam shaft put into it you can hear that lovely cam when it idles. Gear Box and Rear End Now whenever you double the horse power in a car you will end up rebuilding the gear box and the rear end and that we did. Radiator With that much horsepower you run into a cooling problem so it has a new high capacity radiator. Tires BF Goodrich T A radials. Mustang came stock with 70 wide tires but they don t hold the road very well so I put 60 wide tires on the front and big 50 wide tires on the back so we could plant all that power that we created in the engine. Tie Rods and bushings Mustangs have a problem that after about 70,000 or 80,000 miles that the steering gets real loose and has was to much play in the steering so if you want a tight car you have to replace and upgrade the tie rods and bushings. 4 Barrel Carburetor They came stock with a 2 barrel carb and you know that had to go. So it has a performance 4 barrel carburetor. Exhaust After you handle the engine and intake the next place to get power is in the exhaust. The true bonus to this is that this car sounds fantastic. It sounds just as cool when you are de-accelerating as when you stomp on the gas. Interior Black it has some flaws in the upholstery. I have just used covers on the front seat as black vinyl gets hot in the summer. The back seat is original has a tear or two Exterior Red it has some nicks in it and my wife s ex husband took a key down the driver side. I started the project working on performance parts engine, trans, tires etc. the car is what they call a 20 footer. But you can drive this right away stomp on the gas and feel the horse power and then get around to paint and interior when you get a chance.
