1933 Ford Coupe Hot Rod Magazine Featured Car This coupe is as much a show-stopper as it is a rock solid driver. Her diverse awards and magazine history lend testimony to the attention-to-detail level of effort which was invested into the initial build as well as ongoing improvements. Designed and built by PPG Use of Color Award winner and veteran rod builder, Kirby Stafford, this beauty immediately caught the attention of Boyd Coddington and Bobby Alloway at Shades of the Past, receiving a top 20 pick at Pigeon Forge. The 45 degree black scallops laid upon a gorgeous shade of turquoise Dupont inspired Hot Rod Magazine to entitle a feature article A Different Slant which also included a double page illustration of this crowd pleaser. Throughout her accomplished history of countless awards, this car has appeared in Street Rodder Magazine, as well as 50 Years of Rod and Custom. With trophies and plaques too numerous to mention, this remarkable coupe continues to gather premium recognition at shows big and small. Powered by the reliable 350 LT-1 350 Turbo combination, resting on a pristine TCI chassis, with a chrome dropped front axle, this rod moves and handles impressively. The ride is enhanced by coilovers and Deuce Factory traction bars in the rear. Pete and Jake shocks and a four-bar with a Posies spring-leaf system make for a perfect package out front. The 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor and a polished Weiand intake share the engine compartment with Billet Specialties valve covers and pulleys, a chrome alternator, highly polished Griffin radiator, CoolFlex hoses, Vintage AC system and a K and N air cleaner topped off with a blinding chrome ribbed cover. Exhaust is forced through black chrome headers and exits via Magnaflow polished stainless mufflers connected to megaphone pipes with the same reflective finish. The American Racing Torque Thrusts with chrome knockoffs are wrapped with new 16 Michelins in the rear and 14 in the front. The Gibbons body reflects meticulous attention to fitment and gapping. A 3 inch chop works together with the big little wheel proportion to create the perfect stance and profile. The long, swoopy fenders and running boards are coated with a deep ebony mirror-finish so reflective that colors of the reflected image can be detected. In order to protect this finish from star chips caused by gravel slung under the fenders, pads have been installed in the fender wells to prevent such disappointing occurrences. As if the crisp lines of the black scallops and trim are not precise enough, they are further defined by a very thin and subtle pink pinstripe that surprisingly yet effectively ties the turquoise and black paint together. The result of this creative accent validates once again, that this baby is all about detail . The excitement gets even more intense once the suicide doors open to reveal the award winning lush interior of soft, light grey ultra leather and matching suede. The owner challenges any onlooker to find a speck of dirt, a smudge or a wear spot anywhere on this one of a kind interior that exudes cleanliness and creative imagination. The custom seats are neatly tucked in a waterfall resembling an early 60 s Stingray. The stylish dash, also wrapped in leather, houses white faced VDO gauges and Phipps AC vents. The half-wrap Budnik steering wheel is covered in the same matching material. Not a single piece of metal within this cabin was left unchromed, even the stereo housing mounted on the suede headliner challenges the shiniest of mirrors. The professionally installed sound system delights its listeners with tunes that have been treated to two amplifiers and channeled through six speakers plus a sub-woofer, all of which have been discreetly hidden so as not to interrupt the interior s cleanliness. Choose from radio or CD, all music can be enhanced using the integrated equalizer. Unlike other fresh out of the chute rods with no proven road reliability, this solid car has repeatedly demonstrated its bullet-proof dependability. Born in 1990, she has received unsurpassed care and maintenance, undergoing continued improvements and restoration to enhance beauty and worry-free enjoyment. Every aspect of the car whether cosmetic or mechanical has been meticulously maintained to insure the best show success and road reliability.
