Below is a picture of my first car. A 1961 Pontiac Catalina Convertible that I bought after graduating from High School in 1965. I drove, fixed and loved the car for almost two years. Six months after my nineteenth birthday, Uncle Sam came knocking on my door. At the time, my dad had just had an operation and was not able to take care of the car for me so I was forced to sell it to a local used car dealer for $50.
After coming home from the service I drove past the same used car lot that I sold my car to. There was a 1961 Pontiac Catalina Convertible sitting in the front row of the lot. I could not believe my eyes! I slammed on the brakes, got out and ran over to the car. It was my car! I spoke to the owner and it turns out the car ran so good that he put on a new rag top, front bumper and new brakes and gave it to his daughter to use. I bought the car on the spot for $150.
I will never forget the smile on my dad’s face when I came home with car. That as they say was priceless! I used the car for another two years before passing it on.
