These Insurance Claims are Truly Classics
By Larry Edsall

Thanks to some research by the folks in the claims department at the Hagerty Insurance Agency, we can share these "most unusual" collector car insurance claims:

The call of nature

The owner of a 1967 Chrysler convertible had parked in a wilderness area and, unfortunately, had left food in the car. Before long, a black bear smelled something to eat, clawed its way onto the car, punctured the convertible top, and, for good measure, left five pounds of scat as a souvenir for the owner to savor on the long drive home.

Don’t mix a dog, a raccoon and a Jaguar

When the family dog found a raccoon in the garage, the masked intruder sought safety by climbing onto the roof of the E-type Jaguar parked there. The dog followed. Both animals survived, but the Jag was covered in claw marks.

The six-pack fire extinguisher

The owner of a 1971 MGB roadster saw smoke coming out from underneath the vehicle’s dash. A British car with an electrical system issue -- unbelievable! Luckily, he had a fire-prevention device handy. Before the smoking dash became a full-fledged conflagration, he pulled over and put the fire out with a six-pack of beer.

Clipping those gullwings

The owner of a DeLorean was backing out of the garage. Pity the gullwing doors were up.

Chain reaction

The owners of three classic Chevys – a Nova, a Chevelle and a Caprice – were driving in single-file formation on their way to a car show. Suddenly, the lead car makes a panic stop. Crunch! The second car hits it. Yep, you guessed it: Crunch again! The third car hits the second one.

The buck stops here

The owner of a 1961 Cadillac Deville was working in his garage the day his 12-point trophy buck mount fell off the wall and onto the car.

Real horsepower

Perhaps it was simply a jealous rage, but whatever the reason, a neighbor’s horse got into a classic car owner’s garage and bucked the daylights out of a 1976 Corvette and a pair of Porsches.

"We only deal with classics and we never know what we’re going to hear on the other end of a telephone call," said McKeel Hagerty. "But we’re ready for anything."
