Here at Best of Show I have a tendency to get jaded about cars from time to time. When you’re surrounded by nothing but beautifully kept, fully restored show cars like I am, new arrivals can be treated like just another car. Honestly, when I found out we’d be getting a REAL, DOCUMENTED ’69 Trans Am, I couldn’t even wait to see it! Now that it’s here, I can’t help but be in awe. One of 689 overall, and one of only 114 Ram Air III automatics! How’s that for rare??? Even more rare, this T/A is one of eight automatics with the Deluxe Interior. Lastly, this is a factory tilt-wheel car, making this one super rare 1969 Pontiac Trans-Am! Of course we have the PHS documentation for the car, including invoice and window sticker. This no excuses, documented, real live rotisseried T/A is ready to go…can your collection handle it? Aside from the Trans Am package, the window sticker shows: TH400 transmission, AM pushbutton radio, luggage (trunk) lamp, LH outside remote mirror, under hood lamp, tachometer/rally gauges, rally II wheels, console, custom trim option, and, as it was originally shipped to Oshua, Ontario, $1.56 worth of heavy duty antifreeze. Total sticker price was $3364.40—don’t you wish you would have known then what you know now? FOR THE NUMBER FREAKS: 1. Engine stamp : 0530723 YW, 0530723 = Production number, YW = 400 cu. OK, numbers aside, what’s the condition, and how fresh is it? The restoration was finished mere months ago, and there are but 80 miles on the car since completion! The car feels new inside—sitting in the reupholstered seats, holding onto the new, correct wood grain wheel, staring at working, beautiful gauges, closing the door and resting your arm on the original door panels with new emblems, armrests, window cranks, setting your feet down gingerly on the new carpet, it’s apparent how much care went into the car. Heck—they replaced all the windows for minor scratches! How many restorations go that far? Everything works, too, from the radio to all bulbs to the rear defroster! The rebuilt motor starts and runs perfectly, and the reproduction exhaust lets loose a muted and powerful tone. The wheels are new and carry new tires, hiding new brakes, riding on a new suspension. This is an almost-too-nice-to-drive car, which is a shame because of how well sorted it is. Another item commonly missing is the space saver spare in the trunk. Not only is it there as it should be, the correct inflator bottle still resides there, too! A correct jack sits on top of the new trunk mat, and the reproduction jack decals are correctly applied to the trunk lid. I can’t describe clearly enough just how beautiful the finish on this car is. From the beautiful white surface draped with gorgeous blue stripes to the fantastic, as-new trim this car exceeds all expectations. The interior is as-delivered, the engine compartment is correct down to the details and the undercarriage has just the right amount of satin black applied. You can tell from the list above that this car is correct, correct, correct—THIS IS A BLUE CHIP CAR. How many of ’69 T/A’s do you see for sale in a given year? Don’t let this one pass you by!
