A rare car when new and even more so now-the classic Mercedes-Benz
111-series cabriolets were top-of-the-line cars at the time and
came with luxurious full leather interiors with beautiful wood trim
on the dash, insulated convertible top and a fuel injected engine
when virtually everyone else would still offer carburetors for
another decade! Many 220s had automatic transmissions that were
still fairly primitive, but this one has a traditional manual
four-speed. It was optioned with air conditioning that has recently
been upgraded to modern R-134A refrigerant.
Our consignor's parents bough the car in Carmel, California when it
was two years old and it has been in his family ever since. We have
a thick file of service records going back to the '60s. Recently
the car has been repainted in the original #717 Papyrus White, the
entire interior has been redone in new Bamboo leather along with a
new canvas top. A factory rebuilt engine was recently installed
($26,000) and the car runs & drives very well. We have the original
owner's books (complete with dozens of dealer servicing stamps) and
the trunk equipment.
Unlike many vintage cars, a 220SE is functional, safe, reliable,
enjoyable to drive and still in five figures, making it a good
investment, too.
If you are considering one of the classic or collectible cars on
our website, be assured that coming for a personal visit to inspect
first-hand the car that has captured your fancy is very welcome. We
practice transparency in all of our descriptions, but believe that
nothing is as convincing as seeing and touching the car yourself.
Plan a few hours, so you can see, touch, feel and drive the car,
and enjoy a tour of our restoration shops to see 'where the magic
happens.' If your schedule is too committed, we also welcome a
knowledgeable agent visiting for you. Please understand that sales
are final, so the time for all due diligence is before you buy. Our
cars are sold AS-IS, since most are on consignment from owners. We
follow FTC guidelines for all sales and certainly want our future
clients leaving more glowing reports among our reviews!
