Wow, a Holy Grail Camaro! A loaded up special edition pace car with
the legendary L-78 396-375 hp motor! Documented with a window
sticker and the numbers match. Recently finished a body off frame
restoration to factory specs. Although there are no actual known
numbers, this is an extremely rare car.
EXTERIOR: There's no rust in the body, it is straight and has the
cowl induction hood, front, and rear spoilers. Repainted its
original Dover White with the hugger orange stripes which is all
polished very smooth and glossy. It also has the Pace Car decals on
the doors. All the exterior chrome and trim has been replaced. It
has the Rally Sport option which includes hideaway lights that are
converted to electric motors. The windshield is new. The white
convertible power top has been restored. The 15x7 rally wheels are
restored and have shiny trim. They are wearing reproduction
Firestone Wide Oval white letter tires.
INTERIOR: The Pace Car was the only convertible to have houndstooth
upholstery and of course it's eye-popping hugger orange color.
Deluxe interior also includes molded door panels. This one also has
the optional factory tachometer and gauge cluster in the console
along with an AM/FM radio and reproduction mats. Everything has
been restored or replaced. The dash pad, heater control panel,
knobs, bezels, vents ashtray have all been replaced. The door
panels, upholstery, carpet, steering wheel, seat belts and visors
are new too.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: This is where it gets really good! It has a
numbers matching 396-375 horsepower L-78 motor. The casting #s,
dates and stamp pad all match and we've posted pictures. The
legendary motor was completely rebuilt to factory specs including
an L-78 cam, solid lifters, square port heads with the matched
aluminum intake, dual feed Holley carburetor with the correct fuel
lines. Correct type distributor with reproduction and dated spark
plug wires. It even has a complete smog system. These come with
deep groove pulleys, so the belts don't fly off at high RPMs.
Reproduction belts, hoses, and clamps. Delco battery topper with
spring clamp battery cables. All the surfaces are painted smoothly.
It features power steering and new power brakes with cadmium plated
booster. New wiper motor, squirters are hooked up.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It's completely refinished like factory. Under
the trunk lid and jamb is painted nicely. Inside is clean metal
neatly spatter painted. It has reproduction stickers, weatherstrip
and mat. Complete with a Wide Oval tire on a painted rim and a jack
assembly. Heck, it even has new wiring, well liner, trunk latch and
the "shaker cans" are in place.
UNDERSIDE: Every item was removed from the bottom of this car
during restoration. The entire front end steering and suspension
was rebuilt. The rear suspension, springs, bushing, and shocks were
also replaced. It even has the correct spiral shocks and factory
tags reapplied. New correct dual exhaust system with the transverse
muffler. All new fuel system including the tank. The brake system
looks like it's been completely replaced from the calipers to the
brake lines and e-brake assembly. It has disc in front, drum in
back. Looking up at the engine it is fresh Chevy Orange with the
correct starter. It has the correct dated M-20 Muncie 4-speed
trans. It looks fresh including the Hurst linkage. Restored drive
shaft right down to the assembly line paint markings. It has a 12
bolt posi rear. The floors are solid and painted.
SERVICE: We did a thorough inspection of this car. It is a fresh
restoration and we've worked out the bugs. We tightened
miscellaneous items, made adjustments so it goes into reverse
easier, replaced the temp gauge, calibrated the speedometer,
adjusted the brake light switch, adjusted the right rear window
mechanism, repaired the top switch, aligned the convertible top
frame, bled the brakes and balanced the tires.
This is where desirability meets rarity. Think about it: a 69
Camaro convertible with RS-SS, a big block and a 4-speed. Now add
the Pace Car option and that big block we mentioned; it's a 375hp!
So, someone did a frame off restoration and built it the way they
liked it, well this one has #s matching and a window sticker to
verify it is authentic! This is beyond special!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. All the above
information is based on how the car was presented to us and our own
inspection. It is to the best of our knowledge. *These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
