First introduced to buyers at a show in Turin in 1966, the Ghia 450 SS was a limited-run coach-built special produced at the behest of Burt Sugarman. Sugarman, a car dealer and later Hollywood producer, had seen Ghia's 1963 G230 S concept in a magazine and took it upon himself to have a car with similar styling built for public consumption. After shopping around for a company willing to supply engines and other parts for the project, Sugarman was able to convince Chrysler - a longtime Ghia client - to provide virtually whatever supplies for the project.

The end result was a car featuring a bespoke ladder frame chassis, a hand-crafted steel body designed by Ghia's Sergio Sartorelli and refined by Giorgetto Giugiaro himself, and a Chrysler 4.5L (273ci) V8. Chrysler also supplied transmissions, front/rear suspensions, steering, brakes, and nearly everything else required to build a complete car. By the time the car was ready, its original intended price ballooned to over $13,000 ($127,741 in 2024) - similar to the cost of a period Ferrari or Rolls-Royce. As a result, only 52 (or 57, depending on source) vehicles were produced. Needless to say, this inherent rarity has ensured these cars remain desirable through the years.

The fantastic 1967 Ghia 450 SS Spyder featured here is finished in gorgeous Dark Red over a Black leather interior with a matching manual-folding convertible top. This original California car has been meticulously maintained and driven a mere 12,722 miles from new. In addition, this car came equipped with numerous features and options including a factory hardtop, chrome Borroni wire wheels, and air conditioning, ensuring it is easy and pleasant to drive. Recently released from a world-class collection, this Ghia is now ready for its next caretaker.

We expect this investment-grade Ghia 450 SS to be one of the most original and lowest mile examples to come to the market in years. Because of this, I personally believe the investment potential of this extremely rare and sought-after Italian classic will grow beyond your imagination. This exceptional Ghia 450 SS is offered to the most sophisticated investor, collector, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this rare classic.
